We've all seen people not giving up their seats for pregnant women on buses and trains, but this tops that any day. Last week, Flint, Michigan, resident Kristen Thompson was mugged by a stranger while grocery shopping a day before her planned C-section. "I was putting the groceries inside the car and he just came out of nowhere and snatched my purse," Thompson told ABC12.
As soon as she was attacked, Thompson, who has two other children, didn't think twice about going after him. "My purse is my life. It has everything and anything that you can need, possible. Comes down to bills, the kids' insurance cards," she said.
And despite being nine months pregnant, she easily caught up with her attacker. But the man knocked her down during their scuffle. Luckily, with the help of bystanders, Thompson got her purse back and her brother restrained the attacker, Mark Newton, until police arrived.
Newton was then taken to jail, while Thompson headed to the hospital to have her baby. "His name is Joseph Alan Alexander-Thompson. He weighs 7 pounds, 7 ounces," Thompson said of the baby she delivered just five hours after she was mugged. "In the hospital, all the nurses loved him 'cause he was the cutest baby on the floor."
Thompson believes Newton thought she was an easy target because she was pregnant. "I asked him, 'Out of everybody in that parking lot, you're going to pick on me? Why would you do that?' He had nothing to say," Thompson said.
