Fresh Fruit Body Polishing At Home

Fresh Fruit Body Polishing At Home

Body polishing is one of the most expensive services on any salon or spa’s rate card. It feels great when I take this service and get soft and glowing skin, but when I see the bill and the big hole it made in my pocket, it really hurts. I am sure that must be the story of many of you out there. So, the last time when I went to the parlor and got body polish done, I paid more attention to the process and things they were using and decided to try it on my own at home. I decided to use things that are already available at home and I did not buy anything new for this.

Stress, pollution and constant pressure at work not only take a toll on your health but your skin as well. Read on to know how body polishing can pamper and energise your skin.

Body polish is a treatment for skin which is normally done by using natural abrasive products that are massaged, scrubbed and rubbed onto your skin. "A body polish is a popular body treatment that exfoliates and hydrates your skin, leaving it smooth and soft, beauty expert says. "It's like a spa where you scrub your body and remove the dead skin cells," she adds. This in turn rejuvenates your skin making it look healthy and supple. Body polish treatments stimulate blood and lymphatic circulation. They help improve your skin texture and complexion.

Consider your skin type:
One of the most important aspects of body polishing is to ensure that you select the right polish depending on your skin type. Choosing the one that suits your skin will ensure that your skin is well-hydrated and will avoid buildup of rashes and acne.

For dry skin:
A brown sugar based polish is ideal for your skin. It involves a gentle moisturising scrub treatment for the body. The scrub contains moisturising and hydrating properties. Blended with fresh scents of sandalwood, rose aroma oils and geranium  the antibacterial properties also help in revitalising your skin.

For sensitive skin:
Those with sensitive skin, should ideally opt for a gentle and soothing body polish. Shea butter blended with Chamomile or lavender aroma oils will give a calming effect on your skin, as well as your mind." You can also choose one that contains vitamins A, E and C or anti-inflammatory and natural healing properties."

For oily skin:
If you have oily skin, opt for treatments with sea salts. Sea salt exfoliates your skin while killing bacteria that causes acne. It also contains vital minerals like potassium, sodium, calcium and chloride which help the skin stay healthy, young and glowing. Essential oils like lemon, tea tree, basil and eucalyptus also help due to their anti-bacterial and germicidal effects.

For normal skin:
Coffee grounds, rice bran, pecan hulls and sugar work best for those with normal skin. Mix these ingredients with massage oils that contain avocado, grape seed, sesame and other aromatic essential oils. "Some key ingredients like real fruit pulp (papaya or pineapple) can be used along with rose petals to enhance your body polish." Fruits are especially blended to moisturise and nourish your skin. The natural fruit acids cleanse and detoxify the body to give you a radiant and glowing complexion.

How To Body Polish At Home:
Skin Care Tips 1.
The set of basic things that you require to carry out body polish at home
• Pumice stone or a loofah
• Oils - Pure coconut oil or olive oil
• Exfoliation - Scrubs like sugar or salt body scrub
• Skin polish package such as jojoba butter, choco butter or shea butter pkg that are available in stores.

Moisten your body with some warm water and apply the scrub all over the body in circular motion. I used Everyuth Walnut Scrub, as I don’t like mild scrubs, so this scrub was perfect for me. One can also make their own body scrub by following some of the recipes as detailed out by Somreeta here on IMBB. Do the scrubbing for 15 minutes, pay attention to all the parts of your body. Once done, wash your body with warm water and pat dry with a towel.

2. Exfoliation:
To start with, moisten your body with warm water and apply your favorite body scrub (you can also use any face scrub or homemake scrubs like powdered oats and sandal paste etc). Rub every area in circular motion. For acne on back, arms and legs, you can use fruit peels or packs with retino. Keep moisturizing skin and avoid getting exposed to sunlight. Do not expose back much to the sun, always cover it with a collared top or dress. After 20 – 25 minutes, you can take a warm shower and massage the body in olive or coconut oil. With the help of towel, warm and steam the body. You can continue with salt or sugar scrub in gentle circular motion. This completes the exfoliation process.

Apply the fresh fruit body polisher all over your body evenly. Now, sit and relax for 10-15 minutes. To make the same fresh fruit polisher which I used, you will need a cup full of ripe papaya, one full banana, 3-4 spoon of oats, 2-3 spoons of honey and half cup milk. Now, mix everything together to get a thick paste. One can use any fruit of choice that works well on their skin, but oats, honey and milk will remain the constant ingredients. Oats does a bit of scrubbing, honey and milk are moisturizing. I chose papaya as it is a natural exfoliator and banana makes skin glow and is always available at home.
After 10 minutes, take the loofah and rub your body gently in circular motion to remove the fresh fruit polisher. Splash some water if needed. One can use pumice stone on drier areas like knees and elbows.  Finally, wash off the fresh fruit body polisher with warm water and pat dry your body with towel.

3. Skin Polishers:
Home making body polish is the cheap and best option. Fresh strawberries mixed in vitamin E oil can be an excellent polisher. Polishing can start right after exfoliation. Brown sugar, dry orange peel powder, almond oil can also be another body polish recipe. And here you have a glowing body that is not only attractive to the eyes but also pure relaxation technique to the mind.

Now, the final step.  Apply the body oil or body lotion of your choice all over your body. Use medium pressure and go in upward direction. Massage for 5 minutes, then wipe off with a damp towel to avoid staining of clothes.  I used sweet almond oil.
That’s all, you are done with your fresh fruit body polishing session in the comfort of your home and without burning a big hole in your pocket. This whole process will take some 45 minutes to 1 hour, but the result you will see on your skin is worth the time and effort involved.

Benefits of body polish:
Not only are body polishing sessions relaxing and rejuvenating, the experience leaves you with healthier, smoother and glowing skin. It is also an effective way to treat sun-damaged, dry and dehydrated skin, clogged pores and acne conditions. The aim of a body polish treatment is to exfoliate dead skin cells from head to toe and oxygenate your skin to encourage new cell growth. It is also often used before a massage or other therapeutic treatments such as a body wrap.

Brown sugar and oatmeal polish:
Mix three tablespoons of brown sugar with three tablespoon of olive oil and one teaspoon of instant oatmeal. Stir all ingredients until evenly distributed. Apply all over your body. Massage it for about five minutes in circular motion slowly. Then rinse.

Sea salt polish:
Mix one cup of pure fine sea salt, ½ cup honey, 10 drops of tea tree oil and two tablespoons of aloe-vera gel. Apply the mixture on your skin, leave it on for 10 minutes and then rinse.
