Random Facts About Your Eyelashes

Random Facts About Your Eyelashes

Eyelash Growth Cycle:
Eyelashes and eyebrow hair have a much shorter growth cycle than your head hair, which is why they grow as long!
The growth cycle of an eyelash is about 13 weeks. The average length eyelashes grow to is 10mm. This depends upon your genetics and even on the diet of your mother when she was pregnant with you!
There are certain substances which can inhibit growth or stimulate growth to varying degrees, but there is much debate on that point.

Losing an Eyelash:
If an eyelash is shed or pulled out it will take 4 - 8 weeks for it to be replaced with a full length new eyelash. (4 to 6 weeks of growth plus 2 ½ 3 weeks of the cub foot forming)
Cutting your eyelashes will have no effect on the growth cycle so will not make your eyelashes grow faster or longer!
Thats all for my interesting facts page, but I will keep it updated if I find any more!!

Eyelashes also protects the eyes from pollen, dust and other harmful foreign particles. Speaking of eliminating problems with sunlight or foreign substances entering the eyes, you should always wear sunglasses as they are useful and protective in most cases.

This is especially true when you live in sunny or dusty locations as well as in fog filled cities. Another interesting long eyelash fact is that eyelashes are made up of keratin, which is 97% protein and 3% water.
You should avoid any risky activity that exposes your eyes and eyelashes to harm. Keep in mind that any damage to the hair follicles of the eyelashes can cause long term consequences. You should always use more natural means of protecting, conditioning and stimulating the growth of your eyelashes.
For instance, you should not use glues to attach lashes to your eye lids as this can cause damage to the hair follicles growing beneath. However, there are some really interesting types and lengths of eyelash extensions and transplants that are useful when you have already suffered damage to the soft living tissues of the eyes and eyelashes.
For many women, our lashes are our favorite beauty accessories just swipe on a little mascara, and we’re suddenly ready to face the world.

But while you curl and primp your eyelashes daily, you probably don’t know much about the little hairs themselves. Here are nine interesting and even a little facts about eyelashes you should know.
We all love and admire long and beautiful lashes, which definitely are the key features in human look.
But did you know that?

1. They protect your eyes:
Like our eyebrows, the tiny hairs on our lids keep dirt, sweat, water, and other unwanted debris out of the way. Too bad they sometimes fall into your eye themselves Unfortunately, they sometimes fall onto your eye causing a stray hair fall into your eyeball.

2. They fall out daily:
Actually, anywhere from one to five will drop out each day. And at three months, an eyelash's growth cycle is much shorter than the hair on your head  which is one reason why they don't grow very long.

3. Lashes grow in three periods:
There's the anagen phase (active growth period), the catagen phase (transitional period), and the telogen phase. And at any given time, 90% of your lashes are in the active growth stage where they grow about .16 millimeters a day. So, if you cut your lashes they will grow back... it will just take about five months.

4. There's a big difference between your upper and lower lashes:
The hairs on your top lid are much fuller than your lower lashline. In fact, they're almost twice as full with about 200 to 300 lashes.

5. They vary in length, too:
The middle lashes are generally much longer than the sides.

6. The longest eyelash on record was 2.75 inches long:
Actually, it was 6.99 centimeters to be exact. And believe it or not, a guy holds this record. In comparison, the average lash length is about 10 millimeters.

7. Tiny mites live in your eyelashes:
But don't worry  you need them. Called Demodex, they remove dirt and debris, and help clean your lash follicles. (A clogged lash follicle can lead to a painful sty, so be thankful for those tiny bugs!)

8. We've been styling them since 4000 BC:
Early eyelash tools have been found in Ancient Egypt, but the modern mascara as we know it was created in 1913 in France . However, mascara didn’t become popular in America until Maybelline debuted their first formula, which was a mixture of coal and Vaseline.

Celebrity Eye Lashes:
Have you ever wondered how celebrities apply their eye make up to create such amazing appearances?
According to some of the very talented makeup artists of beautiful women, in order to create that wistfully long celebrity eyelash look, you will first apply a very thin coat of mascara to your eyelashes after conditioning, priming and separating them of course.
Let this dry and then using gentle pressure curl your eyelashes with you favorite eyelash curler, whether it is heated or unheated. However, using a heated curler does provide better results when maximizing the degree of curl.
This is especially true when using the more modern rounded eyelash curler cushions. Very gently you will remove the eyelash curler from the eyelashes, one by one if necessary, do not rush removal.
Remember to always be gentle when working around the eye area, including the eyelashes. After curling your eyelashes, you will then apply another coat of mascara. Separate the lashes by combing and then apply another layer of mascara.
Repeat until achieving your desired results. However, in general, many makeup artists will use only two last coats, since the first coat lengthens and separates while the second coat is used for thickening the lashes.
And of course, there are those times when false lashes and extensions are used to create lustfully long lashes.
